New non-slewing telehandler licence
WorkSafe Victoria recently announced a new non-slewing telehandler licence.
From 1 July 2024, operators of non-slewing telehandlers can get a specific high risk work licence (HRWL). Previously, telehandlers operators were required to hold at least a non-slewing mobile crane HRWL which wasn’t tailored to the many operators who only use telehandlers as opposed to non-slewing mobile cranes.
This new approach will mean that people can undertake training specific to telehandlers which are used across industries such as construction and agriculture.
Telehandler operators still have the opportunity to complete or maintain the non-slewing mobile crane HRWL. Telehandler operators are not required to hold both licences.
Operators of telehandlers with a rated capacity of 3 tonnes or less continue to not need a licence, but must be trained and competent in the use of the equipment.
