Michael Eather - Director
Michael is a passionate safety leader who seeks to implement contemporary solutions to organisational challenges using a risk-based approach. With extensive experience working in hazardous environments and more recently as a health & safety regulator, Michael ensures projects are delivered on time and achieve their objective.
Michael’s previous experience includes over seven years working in a variety of technical and leadership roles at the Victorian WorkCover Authority (WorkSafe). Prior to establishing MicroRisk Group, Michael was the Director of WorkSafe’s inter-agency High Risk Dangerous Goods Taskforce; strategically responding to the varying challenges presented by such complex and high-profile events.
Drawing upon established relationships with industry, union and emergency service representatives, Michael utilised various strategies to ensure both process and personnel safety on site among other project deliverables.
Prior to joining WorkSafe Michael spent ten years working in the petrochemical sector in maintenance, operational and safety roles.
Michael believes the key to any health and safety strategy is engagement with employees at all levels of the organisation and a relentless focus on developing the team to maximise their growth and contribution.
In 2023, Michael’s contribution to health and safety was acknowledged by the Australian Institute of Health & Safety (AIHS) who admitted him to the Institute’s College of Fellows.

High Risk Dangerous Goods Project, Vic
Project Director for the testing, removal, transport and destruction of over 25 million litres of dangerous goods from 14 sites in Melbourne’s north and west, safely completed project under-budget ($110M) and ahead of schedule
Major Hazard Facility (MHF) Licence Verification/Auditing, Vic
Led audit teams, assessing OHS and dangerous goods legislation compliance.
Review of Ethyl-Chloroformate Handling, Vic
Undertook a systematic review of handling of highly toxic ethyl chloroformate to ensure ongoing compliance with OHS legislation leading to a re-designed drum handling procedure and equipment with minimizing manual handling and potential for exposure to hazardous substances.
Review of Explosive Operations, Vic
Reviewed approach to explosive collection and destruction by government agencies and departments to assess operational safety, effectiveness and compliance.
