Consultation open on WHS incident notification

Safe Work Australia (SWA) is inviting stakeholder feedback on potential changes to the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act in order to improve the incident notification provisions.

A 2021-22 review by SWA

“identified opportunities to address specific gaps in the current notification requirements and also expand the framework to capture a broader range of injuries, illnesses, hazards and harms.”

Following the review, SWA are now seeking feedback on proposed changes that would:

“capture psychological injuries, illnesses and harm, and psychosocial hazards (including workplace violence, bullying and harassment), and

introduce periodic reporting (six-monthly) for certain incidents where immediate notification is not required.”

Further information on how you can provide feedback on these proposed changes can be accessed here.

The opportunity to have your say on these important provisions closes on 11 September 2023.

MicroRisk Group can assist you to understand your obligations under the current WHS Act and Regulations and ensure that your business is managing its WHS risks. See our Services for more information.
