Major Hazard Facility Regulatory Compliance (VIC)

MicroRisk Group was engaged by a client who operates a facility which produces compressed industrial gases.

Due to the presence and volume of particular dangerous goods, the site is considered a Major Hazard Facility (MHF) according to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 (the OHS Regulations). The OHS Regulations specify duties for operators and employees of MHFs in order to prevent major incidents that may lead to injury and death. Amongst other duties, the Regulations require operators of an MHF to develop and submit a Safety Case to WorkSafe Victoria in order to gain a Licence to operate the MHF.

The client engaged MicroRisk Group to provide ongoing technical support and strategic advice in relation to occupational health and safety with a particular focus on the Major Hazard Facility regulations and MHF licencing process.

This included undertaking a pre WorkSafe verification of a sample of Safety Management System (SMS) elements and control measures which would replicate and prepare site personnel for an upcoming WorkSafe verification. The site verification was undertaken and Assessment Findings Report issued shortly thereafter.
